Hi SteveS,

Newbie Henry here.  Good chance I can join you.  Where's Bay Center park launch?

Launch: last marin exit, L at stop sign, L under freeway, go past Marin Rod & Gun club, there is a little office strip parking lot-- far southeast side has a beach.

Important Tip: Bring a blue/white, or ghost colored Rapala XRap.  No need to bring other lures.

I was out at San Quentin last Sunday, consoling myself for not being able to make the WFO StriperFest in Ukiah (little did I know).  Ended up with about 15 smallish stripers -- not quite WFO, but consistent and fun.

I had launched out of Bayfront for the first time (a great launch location, at least other than at low tide), and ran into another fishyakker (Jeff?) in front of SQ.  Trolled the wall and cove for a few hours catching a few here and there, then noticed Jeff (?) waving me down from the north side of the bridge.  His FF had gone black with fish between the bridge and rod&gun club pier.  We had the place to ourselves, avoiding the 5-ish PB'ers still in front of SQ, and had a blast.

Definitely, blue/white X-Raps rule.

Think I'm heading south and join Bill at Oneill tomorrow.

CP-- youve got my cell, it'll be on-- i'll pick up and run over if you're into them

The only frustration that came last Sunday was that I couldn't catch anything (OK, one) on the cast.  Everything else came on the troll.

I'd pass over a school, and hook up, land it, free it.  I'd then cast back over the same school (sometimes they were on the move, sometimes stayed put), well behind where the school was, and wouldn't catch anything.  Next pass on the troll, and I'd hook up again.

Only thing I can figure is that casting wouldn't get me as deep as trolling, even though I'd cast 40 yards or so.

It could also be a retrieve speed thing or the fact that your paddling lends a slight pump to the retrieve?

it might just be coincidence; sample size not big enough.

you can console yourself with the fact that trolling is better exercise,  :smt004.

Didn't think Jeff was quite right -- sorry about that, Jim.  Was fun fishing with you -- good luck Sunday.
