hey amphibian,

I stay at Ocean cove  a lot, great view but can be windy, however the toliets are outhouses, but they do have hot showers. Stillwater is a nice campground with a decents bathrooms, both are only about 5 miles north of Reef campground.

Bloodbath had a blast with that gun, I had to pry his fingers off of it and sling shots are 100% legal to use as a seal deterrent.

I am an avid shooter and always love to plink whenever I can, I don't doubt Bloodbath went Clint Eastwood with the daisy red ryder. I was not aware you were going after seal lions, I think I heard it racoon patrol. I have been known to give a little grief back to the coons too, with many different methods. I just wanted to mention that the ranger was all over it for the wrist rockets that were on our picnic table and let us know that anything like that is asking for a ticket in the state parks. You'll have to forgive me for even mentioning it, bring whatever you like and I will explain over a beer when I meet you. I am just being if you will parden the pun-" a little gun shy"-with anything that could give cause to an unwanted visit or bad PR from the rangers . Let's have some fun and slay some fish.  Cheers Mike

I hear ya Mike, Im all about the fishing not the plinking. I havent used a sling shot for a seal, Im just aware of the law that says you can use them legally against an aggressive seal, and actually, I dont think it would be a great idea with a bunch of yaks downrange and a marble skipping across the water.. I didnt know about the ranger checking out the slingshot.
On another note, me and Craig are thinking of launching at Reef itself, I googled it, we can do it, just a bit of a hill to haul, but no harder that the hill/sand at the Ft.

As long as the swell is not too big that is. One thing the fort does is offer a lot of protection. But you have to get outside to catch the fish anyway. I have never rolled at reef. A wise man knows his limits and concerns for safety. It is an easy launch though. Real easy.

At the reef itself, down the hill everyone goes down to pick abs?  Another option is at the end of the campground.  I think it is a short boulderhop to the beach on the other side.  I've launched there before.

At the bottom parking lot below the campgrounds. To the left there is a small trail that goes down to the beach. A rocky beach. Thats the launch we are talking about. The trail gets washed out sometimes but doable. A short haul for 2 guys carrying one at a time.

Yup, that's the one I have launched at before.  When I launched there it was 2 guys carrying a big ass Cobra Triple.  Not too bad.

So I take it your plan is the fish the reef area?  I was thinking of heading north to sealshit rock and the next big island north of that.

Will anybody be bringing dive gear? My son can't come so I need someone to dive with.
The fort is a nice place to get your three abs and/or spear a few rockfish and then paddle out for lings.

I'll be heading to Ocean Cove for the weekend and will be bringing my diving gear also. Plan to either launch there or head to Salt Point since I tend to like fishing at Salt better with an easy launch but depends on the weather

Fish first and then dive. If the wind is up and the wet suit is soaked it can get a bit chilly. Abs are easy and plentiful. Its the fish for me first. I will dive after if someone wants to. Craig

I plan to take the easy way at Fort Ross Cove with my Roleez. Joe and I plan to dive for ab and uni on Friday. We have a deaf friend Steven coming in on Friday to meet up with Felix the author of all abalone are deaf. Joe and I met him and dove with him last time we were up, he is a nice man with a lot of history in the area. I have another friend coming in on Sunday to only dive for Abs. I will fish in the morning and then dive the cove in the afternoon. A fun filled and eventful weekend ahead to be sure. Did I mention my latest culinary creation, abalone won-ton's, I can hardly wait.  Mike
