Nathan and I tried our second polespear trip.  I wanted to fish with pole first so we fished till about 10:30 then landed, switched suits and went diving.  Lot more fish life at SW compared to PG.  Perch everywhere and small rockies who would start to gather around you if you didnt move around much.  I could see larger fish in the shade of the kelp canopy or deeper than I want to go quite yet.  Overall I am really enjoying this experience.

The main drag is the weight belt.  I rented one for both trips and its a nylon belt with plastic buckle.  I load up the 8 pockets with 30 pounds of loose shot weights.  If I position the weights to the front, its hard to bend foward in the yak.  I position to the back, sitting and paddling sucks.  If I put them to the side, they catch my seat lines, and when I lean back, the seat posts break through.  I wonder if I can spread the weight around more, like a vest or leg weights?

Don't put the weightbelt on till you're anchored up and ready to hop in the water.  Should eliminate the hassle.

thanks for the report, how good was the visibility when you were there? if you like the south side of SW cove you'll like the north side more and more!

not sure how to specify but in by the island vis was maybe 6-8 feet but kind of murky.  You could see, but hazy.  Out at the point (pescadore?) it was much better, I would say you could see at least 15-20 feet in crystal clear water.  So when divers talk about 8 ft vis, does that mean you cant see past 8 feet or that you can see 8 feet clearly?

on the weight belt, it was an issue when we moved from spot to spot.  Seemed too short a time to take it off/on but a pain to keep on.  I should just stop whining and suck it up :smt003
