I see most people are using Humingbird ff on their Tridents. Why is that? Will the Eagles fit. Is there a list of which FFs will fit with the lid closed all the way?
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

I think most use Humminbird because they have the transducer that fits in the scupper.  Eagle doesn't have anything remotely similar from what I understand.

Yep its b/c of the scupper mount. I actually have the eagle 245 and it works fine with the goop doughnut method

Most use the Humminbird because Johnson Outdoors owns both Humminbird and Ocean Kayaks therefore the O.K. were made to except the Humminbird units.
Other units may be retrofitted but all Humminbirds will fit.

Also the Humminbirds with the rounded corners like the 580 fit a lot better than the square cornered ones. The smaller 300 series fits fine the square 500 and 700 with the square corners are a tight fit.

Mark, I presume that you consider the model 788c a square cornered model? I'm still undecided whether to get a Humminbird FF to fit under the cover, but the position may be too far away from my limited vision. I may still install a double swivel mount that would bring the FF closer to my face.

I bought a humminbird because of the scupper transducer but I may go with the inhull version next time around.  The tranducer fills the scupper and makes draining slow after a cockpit flood.

Cutting drain holes in the plastic nut or making a grooved spacer helps with drainage.

Howard the larger color FF would definitely be easier to see, but a tight fit. The next best would be the 580(black and white) which would fit the sonar shield better and cost a lot less and use less power.
Having the FF closer is a good idea for us vertically challenged that like to tweek the buttons often. Sometimes I miss waypointing a good spot because I have to scoot up to reach the FF.
