It was good to see Sean, Paige, Freddie, Melissa, and Dustin, in that order.
My buddy Craig managed a mendo "steelie."
I managed a small diaper,... uh, striper.

It was great seeing you again Juan. It was also nice to meet Craig today as well. Wow... a Mendo steelie... that's a rare catch. But then again... pretty much everything was a rare catch this weekend. Today was way better than yesterday though... But, still a tough weekend.

There haven't been a lot of typical sized stripers pulled out of Mendo lately. Is it possible that a good amount of the population died off with a lack of water and poor conditions for the longest time? Last year, they weren't looking too healthy to begin with.

Juan, I was thinking of your eel reports this weekend. We went up to Weott for the Avenue of the Giants Marathon. My wife and daughter ran the half. We stayed in Garberville. Interesting place. With alot of different folks for sure. Anyway the river after the rain on the south fork was muddy down by weott but perfect a little further up. The north fork was real cloudy. I had grandaugter babysitting duties. Every hole that I could see from the road was calling. I know there are no fish there now but there will be. The 55#er at the waterwheel was looming very large over the table. 1987. It seems like a lifetime ago. Sorry for the threadjack. Looks like you guys had some fun at Mendo.

I forgot one thing Juan, i just got to say that your measurements are so clear and right on. If everyone posted length measurements like you do there would be no confusion whatsoever. Fish that is, fish. :smt003

Nice to see some stripers being caught. Thats a hatchery trout that your buddy caught. Notice the adipose fin is not clipped. Some get washed down or just come down to the lake when it rains after they start stocking cold creek.
But when the stripers start boiling....i would hate to be a trout!!! You will see those little guys looking like flying fish trying to escape the stripers.

Yeah, I keep hearing that the north bay (and hopefully farther north - like say, Ukiah) is supposed to receive an inch of rain from the last few days.  Boy could they use it.

Ukiah and everything else up here got alot more than an inch!  I'ts practically flood stage up here!  I'm excited about how this will keep the river nice into the summer and the creeks flowing.  Nice report, Juan - hopefully Mendo will get back to normal soon.  Keep working on the pose!   :smt002

If it was a hatchery fish it would be clipped, that is a wild fish.  BTW-I followed up with the Ukiah Rod and Gun Club since the founder is on my board and the president is my employee...no steelhead were put in the lake.
