I knew it wasn't a good halibut tide with the morning minus, so I took my time and got there around 11, hoping the wind would hold off long enough to catch the top of the tide.

It was really windy when I got there, almost packed up and left, but the beauty of the rock wall is you don't have to go far to catch fish, and if worse comes to worse you can head for Ballena Bay, (or back to the launch).

Drifted/trolled down to the big deep hole before the split in the wall and fished around there for about an hour, the wind stopped and it was realy pleasant for awhile.  A B17, (I think, but no tailgun?) was giving flights overhead.

Then I had lunch:  smoked ribs over rice.  I'm really getting it down...  notice the char on the outside, yet the tender morsels inside...

That must have been cool. Are you still out there? Good luck.

I think I got some bbq grease on my camera lense.

On the slow troll back to the lauch had my pole go tap-tap-tap...  TAP!!!...  set the hook and had a fish on!

A few head shakes, and it was off again...  felt small anyway.

The plane was going right over me, but it looks so far away in the pics...

sounds like a good afternoon, the ribs look great, nice bark, good smoke ring and very moist looking, were they st. louis or baby back?

Spareribs, with a paprika, salt, and dry mustard rub smoked over almond wood and finished in the oven.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Wrapping in foil has been the key to ending up with moist ribs.  Doesn't need to be an oven...  but IMO a couple hours worth of smoke is plenty.

That's the way to do it right Eric. Kayak fishing, good grub and some beer, it can't
get any better than that.

I think that airplane was part of the Dream Machines show in HMB. They have chartered flights on those - bought my dad a flight for his B-Day.
