Taking the step sons with me, 8 and 10, for some crappie and striper action at the port of Sac.  They will be in float tubes, tethered to me, so I should be good and sore after today, not just paddling, but standing there flilleting fish for hours afterward.  We have been getting limits every time for a long time, and have had some excellent fish dinners.  Stripers go back, unless we plan on eating one, then I will keep one that is appropriate.  I will post up when we get back from our outing.

Nice outing!  Thanks for the report.  Some pictures of the catches would be appreciated.

Nice report, Montana, sounds like you have your hands full. WTG with taking those future kayak anglers under your wing. Those lessons and memories will stay with those kids, looking forward to the pics and follow up report.

Just got back, started off slow, bite was really light this morning.  I got the oldest set up in the float tube, and tethered him to a piling, and he caught a crappie right away.  I had the youngest with me in the yak, and he caught one right after that.  Then nothing for an hour or so.  Then the bite turned on, and we ended up with six nice slabs, and then the youngest buries a hook into his hand past the barb.  I tried the fishing line trick, no go.  I took some ice and numbed the area the best I could, and used the pliers to push down and pull back.  Popped right out, but bled like mad.  Packed his hand on ice, and paddled him back to the truck, and bandaged him up, then went back for Ryan.  Not a bad day considering, the boys each caught some nice crappie, and we released at least a dozen that were just not quite big enough.  Had a striper boil start in front of me, but could not find it in my soul to stop and cast into it with Tanner bleeding and crying.  Next time.

How do you post pictures on this forum?

Way to go Dad. You are my idea of a very passionate parent. Another boil, only bigger will be waiting someday.

sweet trip.  The fish will grow larger over the years, but mostly the hook size, placement and amount of blood.  Those are some serious memories!  The boys are lucky to have experienced it.

caught slabs...dad's a hero...son gets a fishing battle scar (major fishing cred.)...
not as planned, but quite the memory!
