Seems that the Eagle 245 is highly recommended here.

Anyone know which stores in the Bay Area (South Bay preferred) carry the Eagle 245 or the 245 portable?

New here, and it has been great reading so many interesting and informative posts.

I couldn't find it anywhere local and so ordered from Amazon, where it comes with only a 2 month guarantee. So make damn sure it works if you order it from them!

I got mine at West Marine

Bass Pro normally has them for less than a $100

Thanks for the answer so far.

I checked the West Marine store in San Carlos but they do not have it.

Ordering over the Net is an option, but I would like to see one first and make sure it is suitable.

Anyone has a preference for the regular or the portable?

I'm pretty sure the regular is the standard, not the portable.  I tried to order one off the net for around $109 - $120, but the few sites I tried didn't have it in stock.  I ended up keeping my business local and getting Greg at Pro Sport Center (Eureka) to order me one.

You said South Bay, have you tried the West Marine in Saratoga?

Probably will be down south Sunday and will drop by the Saratoga store.

By regular I meant the standard as opposed to the portable. Yeah, that "or" there can be confusing.  I may consider the portable because that can eliminate the need for making a battery pack, but the portable transducer can raise issues.

How much did you get it (the standard?) for at Pro Sport?  Might be headed up that way soon.

I haven't paid yet, but Greg indicated he'd try to match the internet price.

Go to adventure sports, they are a large kayak store off of El Camino it think.  Anyway they sell the lowrance X50DS, which is practicly the same thing as the eagle since lowrance owns and makes eagle. plus if you find it for anywhere cheaper(look online) print out the cheapest price you can find, take it in and they'll give it to you for that price.  I got mine for $100.
