Hey all,

I just bought a 11 foot SOT Ocean Kayak and I'd love to bring her out to try fishing.  I live in SF and just joined this site and it's got me pretty excited.  I am a fairly experienced ab and scuba diver and do a little pier and surf fishing (I also sail a lot and I'm very comfortable on the ocean) but I've never Kayak fished before and as a midwesterner, I am still pretty new to ocean fishing.

The weather this weekend looks to be a little unsettled on the back of the high from earlier this week but the mornings should be fairly calm. Linda Mar looks like it has potential (and it's close to home), but I'll take your lead.  Let me know if anyone is open to going out this weekend or if anyone has any suggestions on a good spot for a newbie.

Thanks!

Hello Paul.

There's currently not a whole lot to fish for at Linda Mar; rockfish season doesn't open until June 13th round here and there is no salmon season.

If I were you I'd seriously consider trying to get up to Shelter Cove in ~ 3 weeks (see the sticky at the top of the hookups forum). There will be >50 of us up there so statistically you're bound to meet someone you like  :smt001.

In the meantime look out for one of the bay halibut hookups. Also there is a hookup for the rockfish opener down in Monterey (Stillwater Cove) May 1st.

Welcome!

Phil.

Keep an eye out for hookups around the bay.  There are a few SF residents here that go out regularly.

Thanks for the suggestions... I'll definately plan for Shelter Cover in ~3 weeks and keep an eye open for SF halibut. In the meantime I'll get my chops up on the Bay and will reach out for a dive partner to go for Abalone when I have some time.
