So I did not have time to take the kayak out today had to drive miss Daisie AKA mom to her DR appointment
so after I slowed down and kicked her out of the car I went home and grabbed some gear and went to crab
cove with some 4in storm anchovies and did some plugging, and sure as shit I hooked up a 28 IN" halibut nice and fat
I also ran into a fellow kayaker & NCAK member glowblk "spelling"??? who was fishing dead bait I offered him a storm
but he said he had some.

I tell you guys my freezer is getting full of halibut I think there must be 25 pounds in there
time to catch and release don't you think? :smt012

sorry no pics I left my phone in the car but glowblk did take a pic but told his camera is not working to good
mabe it will come out  :smt001

PS.... all halibut are my bitches  :smt005

Dude

You are my hero.
I have been hunting 'but all year for nada...
Of course location is the key, maybe I need to get up to your neck of the woods.

This early in my yak career has been local santa cruz to monterey.
This year it is gonna change, I plan on venturing out more.

Keep up the reports and say hi to your "bitches" for me.

Yep that is 6 halibut and it is only April I think I will break last years record of 23 no problem
this last halibut was fat the top slab was 1.1/2 in thick the bottom was 1.in thick not bad for a 28.in butt :smt007

Crab cove? Crap. I've been calling it Ballena Bay.

For the record, I followed the slayer's advice (thanks again, Duane!) and switched tactics to the mighty storm bait. I can safely say that after a couple hours of trolling, all weeds between 6 and 8 feet have been removed from the beach strip care of yours truly. How do you keep the weeds off it?

"glowblk" out.

weeds suck but what are you going to do next time bring a jigging rod that you can flip A lure from the kayak.
that is if you don't have live bait because that is allways best

Sweet catch from the shore! Must have been nice not to have to load, unload, and clean all your kayak stuff.
I only caught two Halibut and one striper on fishtraps last year. I used swimbaits as the weight on my threeway drifting live or dead bait almost everytime I went out.
