I'm surprised you don't already have a handheld unit in that huge drybag of yours haha.
Of course I have a handheld GPS in my huge drybag!   :smt005  I'll probably get a fishfinder w/ GPS too...

The Eagle Cuda 250/SMap has worked well for me so far. I mounted transducer under the seat and a rechargeable alarm battery (a 5# brick) just behind me through the taller hatch opening. I'm a complete newb and find it pretty straight forward to use both gps/sonar.

I'm looking for another FF for the 2nd yak and was researching the Eagle Cuda 250.  Looks like it has been replaced by the 350.  Need to do a little more digging but this is probably what I'll go with.

I am using an Eagle Cuda 350 S/Map and really like this one for kayak fishing.  It's compact, water proof (I have had mine upside down in salt water while turned on and it's still ticking), combines fish finder and GPS in one unit & will display both in a split screen.  The FF shows good structure detail, the fish IDs are clear with optional settings for fish, off track and arrival alarms.  The GPS is great for saving hot spots, boundaries of the many MLPAs (wish I didn't have to use this one) and your launch locations (nice when the fog rolls in and you're ready to head back to shore).  Check out other posts in  "Kayak Zone > Kayak Rigging Tips > fishfinder only or fishfinder/GPS combo? Mono or Color?" for my battery set up, if your'e interested.  This small 12 volt UPS battery will last for several days of fishing on a single charge.

Eric. Like those other guys I have the eagle 245.  I have beat the crap out of it and it still works great.  It's also inexpensive, so if you do sink it it's no great loss.

The thing I like about FF's is that they're a lot of fun.  If you love the ocean (which we all know you do), exploring the bottom is another whole fun thing - especially if you're a diver.

Holy Crap, you're finally coming over to the darkside!  :smt044

I have the Piranahmax, which has a fairly crappy reputation.  No problems with mine, as long as the connectors are nice and sloppy with di-electric grease as Tad mentioned above.

Yeah, the Dark Side.   :smt044  I've been lagging and don't seem to be too motivated on this...  I'll likely do the Cove trip without one and maybe get one later this year.  It'll get in the way of the tripod!   :smt005

Thanks, all, for the advice.   :smt001
