Yaked a different spot in Malibu.
Perfect day out.Easy launch into the kelp forest.
Where I parked on the outside edge and started
to rig up.When suddenly a whale and her calf
decided to come up for a gulp of air in a big hole
in the kelp maybe 20 yards away  .
They went under and were gone.

So long story short.....................
I threw swimmies,I drop shot,I drifted,
on the outside edge,on the inside edge,
and all the holes in between.
I set up some drifts along the beach
and for all my efforts Got a grand total of 0 fish

But the day way not a total lost.
there was a pod of dolphins feeding and playing along the beach all day.
So as I paddle back to the landing spot
I was surounded By the pod moving in for the kill
So I was like okay you guys wanna play??
I put the yak in 2nd gear and took off.
I could see they were getting closer and closer,
so I paddled harder and harder...............
I looked back to see if I was being followed and
there was 2 of them sneaking in from behind.
Then a dark shadow below me up to my bow
and explodes outa the water just in front of me.
Then another and another.Next thing i know is I'm being escorted by 5 dolphins.Jumping and swimming upside down just under me
I keeped up this pace for about a 1/4 mile till my arms said enough
And although I didn't catch any fish, this was my best day on the yak by far!
It seem so surreal, and spiritual to be so close to these wild animals
(I really need a waterproof camera)

Anywho, when I landed,I was approaced by a bunch of people
asking if those were dolphins and how cool it looked from shore.......

the end

Cool, Zuman.  Thanks for coming here and sharing that.  It's days like that that make us feel alive and well.   :smt001  (and, yes, you need a camera, Bro!   :smt002)

What a wonderful experience!  That would be a Kodak moment for sure if you have a camera with you.  Thanks for the report.

Very cool report, thanks for sharing! I once came into a large pod of dolphins while on a Jet Ski on my way back to Long Beach from Catalina. I shut off the engine and just sat there as they headed down south, swimming by all around me - incredible moment in time...
