I currently own a Hummingbird 343c, which took a slight dunk in the salt and hasn't been performing up to par since. I purchased it at West Marine about 10 months ago along with an extra 1 year warranty. I spoke with them the other day and they said they would honor my warranty for an exchange or another finder of equal or lesser value. Unfortunately they don't carry the Eagle brand. I've read other posts here and it seems there is a general consensus that Eagle is the best brand for a kayak. West Marine does however carry the Garmin 300c. I was wondering if anyone has owned this finder and how it performs in the salt. Any and all info would be very helpful and much appreciated.

I have the 300c and love it. I use it on both my kayak and my small alum boat, it is very clear and even in bright sunlight is easy to see from as far away as my wifes kayak if we are fishing together :smt007 I have used many other units and this one is very user friendly too. one thing I like about this unit also is the volt gauge feature and with a full bat.charge I can fish 8-10 hrs and still have 12.5 volts left

Thanks for the response, fishbutt. I think I'll give it a whirl and see how it performs. The Hummingbird dipped in the water very briefly when I timed a surf re-entry wrong. It was turned off at the time and I took it home, opened it up letting it dry out completely(was pretty wet inside, hardly water resistant). Now I feel it wants to work but the screen keeps flickering then whites out. So instead of going with the same tested and failed product I think I'll try something different. I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks again

I own a 300c also and i cant complain about anything on it. it works like a dream with color screen and easy set up. my only suggestion is to remove the screen protector right away. I made the mistake of leaving it on and it melted to my screen. even with that slight problem i can see the screen perfectly.

300C works great.  Color is so much nicer than grayscale screens.
