Started to get my new 160i ready for fishing so I thought I would start with the fish finder. Thought I would give the Lowrance X50 a go, I like the small compacted look of it. Installing the FF I was trying to keep things low and in plain site, so I install a shelf in the foot well to mount the FF on got the idea from Adam (fishunter) seems to work fine.

Next I installed two Scotty flush mounts in the rear for my downrigger and a pole holder pretty basic stuff I know.

Next is your basic plano box with rod holders installed and a lid leash

To the vary back of the yak I fabricated an anchor system mainly for lakes and a place to hook-up my sturgeon quick release anchor. No extra holes where drilled, I utilize the mounting holes for the rudder.

PIC #1  Fishfinder shelf
PIC #2  On the water view my big fat foot and the rod holder was not in the way of site.
PIC #3  Scotty flush mounts
PIC #4  Downrigger set-up
PIC #5  Plano box with leash
PIC #6  Rear anchor system
PIC #7  Rear anchor system
PIC #8  Three pound river style anchor

wow! fantastic work Pat.  all the upgrades and the boat still looks slippery.

Are the rear rod holder extensions a scotty product or your creation?

Joel with your pimping skills this would be a piece of cake :salut: I was trying to keep it simple, sometimes less is better thanks.

Hydrospider they are Scotty rod holders BUT I did some modification to them. I bought the 259 extension witch had a 6.5 center and cut them down to 2 1\2 center. I thought the stock ones where to high for me, the 2.5 center seems to be about right. At the time Scotty did not have such an item but they do now, they have the 254 mini rod holder extender I think they looks to bulky. Thanks for the at-a-boy :smt006.

10 out of 10...very nice work, that is an absolutely great looking rig.

What is the sequence for deploying that downrigger and detecting a bite?

my sequence for deploying a downrigger

#1 place rod in holder hit free-spool
#2 paddle for about twenty to thirty strokes + or – ten
#3 stop free spool take paddle and grab the line with the drip ring and bring it to ya
#4 hook up downrigger (I can get ten cranks witch is ten feet before the rod tip hits the water, I keep a loose drag so I can pullout more line. The trout I catch are usually in the top fourth feet.

Detection a bite,
I use a 7’ rod so I can see the tip of the rod it in the corner of my eye and With the rod loaded, ( the tip of the rod just about toughing the water) when a fish hits and releases the downrigger clip, the rod tip flings upward and its more like fish-on.

It sounds like a lot but after a while you don’t even think about it. I like to troll with two of the same rods one on top and the other down deep.

And thanks Sean for the 10 out  of 10

BRILLIANT!

Pat, I love clean well thought out rigging... and if you can do it with minimal cutting and drilling.... all the more kudos to you!

I particularly like your anchor system.  How did you make it?

Your custom Scotty rod extension and Plano box lid bungee are great ideas too.

Good choice on the T160i.  I could tell you were hooked on it's speed that day we met all met at the Foster City Lagoon for test drives.

Thanks ChuckE  I appreciate the kudos :smt006 as for the anchor system, I started with cardboard and cut the design I was looking for, then took it to work where I have access to machinery. I went thou about 4 deferent designs before I decided on that one.
Yes your right Foster City Lagoon was the turning point for me.

Thanks again

Very nice!!! Didn't know you decided to get the Tarpon. So with all that speed when are you going to join me on big blue for some rockies? You are going to have to use a drift chute to slow down enough for trout trolling.  :smt005

Pat,

There's a lot of NCKA members that get sea sick (me included) but modern medicine is our friend.  I'll vouch for the Scopolamine patches and then there's the tablet form, Scopace but they can only be obtained with a Dr's prescription.  There's over the counter stuff, dramamine, bonine and ginger.  Whatever works for you.  There's been a few threads that have thoroughly discussed this topic (in nauseating detail) LOL.

Since you've been in the bay you just need to take the next step and check out the reefs off of the beach.  You might want to leave that anchor home though.

I fished with Adam last year and he told me the same thing and then Scopace set him free and now he is out on big blue every week. Freedom is just a prescription away.  :smt005

Thanks guys I have been meaning to ask my Doc about Scopace, I have tried over the counter stuff but makes me so darn tired I can barely make it home before I full asleep :smt009.

Gary the anchor is for lakes only.
