Wish I could.
Just remember there are inspections now so make sure your kayak is clean inside and out.
Good luck. Damned cold in the morning but it will warm up as long as the wind and clouds stay away. Even the slightest wind will cut right through you when it starts moving that snow chilled air around.

Futhel,

I plan to go for whatever is biting :)

Browns in the early morning, Kokanee if the bite is on, and Mackinaw.  We can carpool from Auburn or Sac if you want (from where I live it is a draw between taking 50 or 80).

Tote,
Thanks for the reminder about inspections.  I will shamwow my kayak until it emits a Teflon sheen.

Bigfoot,
I plan to launch early morning from Baldwin beach and fish the ledge between between Baldwin and Emerald bay.  I don;t have my heart set on that location, so if you have a better spot in mind, I am all ears.

We did the Cave Rock ramp inspection. They open at six usually but sometimes earlier if a tourney is scheduled. One of the questions we were asked was "how long will the mussels survive out of water"....or something like that. I wasn't sure and was told they will survive average conditions up to 28 days. By the way...Share a good joke with her and you get bonus points for the inspection. Tote is right on when he say a "little" breeze and it will chill you to the bone!  Good Luck

Thanks for the info.  I just called Taho ANS to inquire about the inspections.  The Rep informed me that there will be no fees for Kayak inspections and that the Kiosk personnel at Baldwin beach are qualified to perform said inspections (though she was unsure if Baldwin would be staffed this weekend, so I might need to find a different launch location).

The only thing about Baldwin is I don't think the gates are open yet.(for the year)Then they don't open till 7-8 AM.  I will drive by tomorrow and see. It is about 1/2 mile from gate to shore. "Roleez"? That is a sweet area with great structure and good multi-species possabilities.  cold 37-38 degrees sat-sun. Camp Rich boat rampis a little south of there and would be a paddle and a half coming back in any wind. I live in the middle of SLT around the corner from the "Sportsman" @ Sierra Blvd. Cave rock seems to be Med hot bite. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of another. I'll post by noon tomorrow whats up w/ gates. Sunday looks like glass and warmer.

Thanks Bigfoot.  I called about Baldwin beach, it will be closed.  My plan is to launch from Camp Rich and paddle toward Baldwin, working the shallows for browns.  From there I plan to paddle towards Emerald bay along the shelf looking for macks and kokanee.

Unfortunately I can only make it Saturday.

Rubicon,

I am not a big fan of the North Shore :(

I hope you can make it.  Let me know if you want to carpool.

just got back from glassing the lake @ camp Rich. The Pier and launch aren't "Open" yet but we should have the place to our selves if we get there early. Construction going on on the Pier. The boat ramp itself has a 3 foot high sand dune in front of it so that's out for trailered but we can launch anywhere near the ramp. There was no one from the resort there to talk too. I don't know anything about the mussel inspection or if they have one there. It looks to be about three miles from E-Bay so the paddle back would be tough against any wind later in the day.
 What are you thinking?
