I love the ease of pedaling my Adventure but there are times when I get frustrated about the lack of front deck space. I use the burlap sack and put it in the tankwell. You can really get a good chum line going when the fish are biting and you've been braining them and throwing them in the tankwell. Sportsmans warehouse in Rocklin has a large insulated fish bag that is normally 75 dollars for around 35. It's been sitting there with a red tag for months.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

in the bay- for butts - i use a 6 foot piece of swaged plastic coated stainless cable. I don't bonk 'em, just thread 'em on that line before they go nuts, then secure one end, and toss 'em overboard. They'll stay alive and kicking all day- just following along like a dog on a leash.

in the ocean, its an old pillow case for rockfish, in a bucket. Bigger things go in the hull.

Looks good SteveS!  I'm just a little worried about them Sea Lions taking my offering catch.

maybe I'm just cheap and oldfashioned

MAYBE??!!  That's hillarious!   :smt005  You're the best kind of cheap and oldfashioned, Oh Great One!    :worship

The burlap method is one of the best out there.  There's a reaction that occurs when water evaporates.  It's that Newton thing:  each action has an equal and opposite reaction.  In the case of the wet burlap, when the water evaporates there is a cooling effect, so it's actually a mild form of refrigeration.  I'd use that method, but I'm soooo freakin' lazy that I always forget.  I think you can get a burplap sack at your local coffee roaster...

I put fish in the tankwell.  Sometimes I bonk 'em and sometimes I just let 'em flop - it depends on the fish, the weather, and my intentions for the day.  I don't keep much and a limit isn't really part of the equation for me, so I don't need a big plan...

When we get to fish for salmon again everyone should have a plan.

If you luck out enough to catch a big salmon you will create a new plan!  You'll do whatever you have to to get that slab in the hull, because you'll cry every night for the rest of your miserable life if you somehow lose that beautiful prize.   :smt001

a burlap sack would be good I just on't have one and am unsure where to get hold of one.

John

Orchard Supply Hardware has them, I figure most hardware stores would as well.  I always have one in the boat, just in case I get something extra special

I've got a ton of burlap sacks leftover from blind material, I'll throw a pile in the truck & bring them to the Cove for anyone who needs one.

I'm thinking along the same lines of Yester about those 'butts, if I were a 600 lb. flea bag that would look awfully tempting!

8 years back in gray area, and no fur bag issues yet....now i'm crossing my fingers

In SD i had a fur bag take a mackerel off my sabiki-- it was leaning against the yak.  Perhaps some day our knotheads will get bold enough.
