This is kind of interesting.  You can stand the kayak up against the t-bar and secure it, then lift up the other end and pivot the kayak around and secure it to your rack kayak supports.  Seems like it would make one-man load ups pretty easy.

Nothing sketchy about it at all.  Like Abking I have a 6 foot bed and transport my 14 footer everywhere this way.

Just remember the law requires a RED flag (or rag) 1 foot square if it extends 4 feet or more.

AND after dark you need a red light in addition to the flag, (flashing or non-flashing).

Perfectly legal and legit.

relatively cheap (try to find a 20% off coupon) and this way you wont have to lift your kayak over your head.

looks like the same one as my normal fishing partner has.  he can transport his yak almost fully loaded this way.  get a bed cover and stay even more fuel efficient.

I have a 90 Toyota ext-cab (435,000+ miles) and a 12' Necky spike... Toyota has a sliding glass rear window... I open it ... pad the opening and slide the nose of my kayak in there... I made a brace with a "V" type cradle that goes across the bed by the tailgate .... The boat rides in place (in the "V") above the bed... I lash it down through the scuppers... to the tie downs... I put my gear in the bed and hang my flag on the end of the yak ( about 4 ft. from the tailgate )... I talked to the LLEA  ... as long as there's a flag they are un concerned. Good luck when you get out.

I did the same for a year or so. If I have two yaks to move one would be on the upper bunk and one on the bed with the T bar

Sorry... My Bad... I miss typed.... My 90 Toyota EXT has 345,715 miles not 435,000....but I'm working on it... :smt001 .
What I like about having the boat just above the bed is I can still use the bed for storage and I don't have to lift my kayak  too high to load it ... only takes a few minutes to load and go. The multiple kayak problem is still off in the future .... working on that too... :smt002 .

The Harbor Freight bed extender linked above is sweet, I think I got mine on sale for around $20.  I can pile 4 boats in my Ram, throw 2 tie downs over them and hit I-5 @75 mpg with no worries.  When I need bed space I have a Yakima cross bar across the cab with a custom rack that fits into the rear slots in the bed.  Two boats on top with all the gear (& dog) in the back.
