I have read a lot of discussion about using a topper of flourocarbon over braided line.
I have two questions.
1. Are we talking flourocarbon leader material or flourocarbon line?
2. What type of knot are you guys using?  Blood knot? surgeon's knot?

I tried tying some leader material on to my suffix braid last night and had no luck.  Help!

I rarely buy flouro leader unless I intentionally want a stiffer leader. I usually buy Maxima flourocarbon line and use it to make leaders. For the knot, I normally tie a uni to uni connection if I need to tie something quick, or I'm on the water. If I tie the leader on at home I use an Albright knot, or a bimini on the braid and a surgeon's loop on the leader for a loop-to-loop connection.

I'm uni-to-uni all the way...been that way for years, never a failure.

The Bob Sands knot works really well.  I have also used the uni to uni, and centauri to centauri knots with success.  A drop of super glue or head cement really secures the knot and prevents chaffing and cutting.  Matt

OK thanks guys I will give up on the leader material.  I'll try again with regular flourocarbon line and the knots you have suggested.  I thought it might just be the stiffness of that leader material that was messing me up.

I was just tying a new topshot of mono with a uni-uni knot for one of my rods and think I stumbled on an easy way to do it, well for me not sure how others do it.

I kept the rod/reel mounted and the line through the loops and passed the topshot through the 2nd to last and the last eyelet before the reel and then did the first knot.  Then cut the braided line at about the third eyelet and did the other knot.  While holding the topshot, just gave a few turns on the reel to cinch them up, and then a couple pulls on the ends before clipping off the excess.

That how most people do it, or do you remove the reel and setup something like they use at FW?
