Decent if you live close, but $1.50 a pound is still quite pricey.
Most of the time, the going rate is closer to $1/pound.

For example, you can get clean lead (hard or soft) shipped via ebay from reputable sources for substantially less.

The person said Free Shipping but then says later he charges shipping. I think perhaps he meant no extra handling fee.

Typo, probably using old auction as a template.

I just called him with some questions betwen soft/hard lead applications and he verified - shipping is free.   :smt001

When I installed batteries in cars back in Florida, at the end of the day the parking lot would be filled with old batteries people would dump off.  I knew a few guys would come around from time to time and take them home.  They said they melted down the lead to make fishing weights.  How they neutralized the acid I am not sure, baking soda may do it.  But I never had to try and neutralize that much acid before.  Often times the batteires may be dry or partially empty.    Might be a source to think of . Trust me, most mechanics could care less if some one is picking up the batteries for us, it was one less thing to do.

Lead......from

Alco (new & scrap) metals
1091 Doolittle Drive
San Leandro, CA     562-1107

Take the Davis St. exit from I-80 WB

Go RIGHT at Doolittle AND IMMEDIATELY get left, in order to swing left
into the Alco parking lot AS SOON as you clear the concrete street-divider.

Any guy who builds stuff.......e v e r......needs to go over there
and just grok the place.   They HAVE what someday you'll be wanting.

So. where do you buy your tires? See if they will give you the old weights. When you melt any metal other than lead will float to the top where you can skim it off before pouring. I just got 140 lbs for free from a freind who saved tire weights at the Ford dealer.
