I searched this site and it appears I won't go wrong if I purchase a Werner Camano or Aqua-Bound Stingray paddle. I also noticed they have an Aqua-Bound Fin-Stalker paddle as well. I am looking to spend around $200 or less. I searched the REI site and they have these paddles available and since I am an REI member I get an extra 20% off through the end of March. Can anyone suggest one or the other? I am new to the sport so I don't know for sure whether or not I prefer a high angle or low angle paddling style but figure I won't go wrong with the touring style paddle. I would like to enter the ocean this coming up rockfish season and am gearing up for this. Thanks in advance for your help and I hope the links show up properly.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. I figured it would be better to go with a low angle paddle.

I got a Pacific brand paddle for a Xmas gift. I like it so far but haven't used it much yet. The site is worth a look...

I am also in the market for a new paddle and was thinking of getting an Accent Diamond Edge. A little on the spendy side but felt good. Is anyone out there familiar with or has used this paddle?

i will add my 2centavos here: I use the break-in-half $100.oo?(not sure but can look at pic and see) that you can flare. If your not paddling many of mile, why break MAJOR bread? I'm up to almost 1,000 miles in 3years with it and have always thought of getting one of the fancy HI-END jobs, but until i find myself at the rear of the pack, I'll stick with it.

this one......i don't even know which brand it is, but it works well. it's not the lowest of the two-pc, but I do see it at alot of paddling places.

maybe Aquabound?

I have a aquabound stingray carbon shaft paddle (4 piece) and I like it a lot.  I feel its lightweight and relatively hardy.  The blades are some sort of plastic composite and seem to be strong for when i use it to push off (bad i know).

I got it last year from REI when it was on sale for like $115.
I picked up an older style werner camano and I don't like as much as the stingray.

I use the ISO seven 2

http://www.seven2.com/

I think I am one of the few that do on this board but I really like the feel. I have arthritis (in a few fingers) so the grips really help. The paddle looks weak (very thin shaft) but I talked the salesman and he says he has yet to get one back and he uses some for his rental fleet. I have no issues so far.

I've been using the Werner Camano now for about three years. The camano is a very light paddle that your arms will appreciate once out on the water. I'm lucky that I chose the right paddle for me the first time around and can highly recommend the Werner Camano.

Good Luck
Ben

I'm in need of a new paddle too for my new ride.  I'm hoping that someone will let me test out a few different paddles this weekend at Del Valle so I can make a decision.

Well I ended up taking advantage of the 20% discount at REI and got two paddles, one Aqua-Bound Carbon and one Aqua-Bound Fiberglass (loaner paddle). I have not had a chance to try them out as I am furiously trying to finish a bunch of projects at home so that nothing gets in the way of rockfish season. The wife and I both agree I will be MIA this summer...I may send postcards  :smt044.

I may get a chance this weekend to give them a try. I will say they are definitely lighter than the $30 special I have been using. Both of them are 240CM as I am 6'1" paddling ocean kayaks (hoping this was the right choice). I also purchased a farmer john wetsuit, warmer booties, Oneil Thermo X rash guard (Mooch's recommendation in another post). I have all the safety gear so watch out here I come.

Thanks to all for the great advice!!
Ray
