I hunted for halibut in Tomales today with no success.  Turned out to be a pretty nice day.  Sunny and windy, but actually the least windy in the three times I have been out in Tomales since I bought my kayak.  I had a very difficult time catching bait - only got one smelt.  I did not bring any bait, so I had to do the best I could with my one live smelt.  The live smelt was not alive for long, but stayed on the hook for a few hours.  I did have one on at one point, which I suspect was a halibut due the the way it was fighting, but it got off.  I had a really sweet day even though I did not bring home any fish.

On a related note, do you all know how much longer halibut tend to be fishable in Tomales?

Later, Sean

What area of Tomales did you fish? Where did you launch from?

I launched from Nick's Cove/Miller Park.  I fished west and south of Hog Island.

Not much longer.

Thanks for the report.
