Hey guys,

Bloodbath here! Gonna set up a boogie board for spearfishing and need some advice. How should I make the holes in the board? Drill?
What plastic fixtures do you recommend to stick through the board to make it clean and water tight?

Thank You

Joe one way is to use a soldering gun to melt holes. You can use zipties or stainless screws and nuts for hardware. Look on my friends website, scroll down to dive board float.

You may want to talk with Bigeyedave.  His bb has been dry docked since the incident at Ft. Ross.

i'd love to offer tips but as you have probably seen, my board is not clean and the holes are made with a sharp screwdriver; )

i'd say just have handy on the board a lot of clips an such for flashlight, gun and bungee cords to hold that and all your fins / guns down with. also backpack straps for hiking and a game bag permanently mounted on there for abs and fish.

make sure you rinse after each use well so your bungees stay stretchy.

Also, a hole for a dive flag is handy when the chop is high so you can locate your board and have a kelp clip fixed on to maybe 8 ft of bungee so you can anchor to kelp.

they are a great way to ride the surf back in after a day's diving, they carry all of your gear and are easy to kick out to a spot on too when the kelp is thick.

Hey Joe,
You could drill the holes and then if you really want to go all out find some plastic tubing or small PVC pipe and cut to fit flush on top and bottom of bb and then marine goop them in to seal the deal. I like the idea of using bungy cord and then you could make a loop on one end and zip tie it and the same on the other side with a small carabiner to keep your gear secure, then secure it to the board using the hole with the bungy through it. The one I saw from the guy at Van Damm had a connection for his speargun, another for his dive bag, another for his depth/marking rope w/buoy, and another for his tools. He also had a standard bb surf leash to connect the bb to the kelp while diving.

I am more interested to hear about what happened to Big Eye Dave at Fort Ross-Anyone?  Mike

Dave, Clark and one other guy had to do a 1/2 mile open water swim on boogie boards after being stranded on a pinnacle that disappeared after the tide came in.  They were seeking refuge on the pinnacle because they had been buzzed by whitey...a big one.  The held hands to look big and hoped for the best.  They swam to shore looking like the worlds biggest version of this...

Fortunately there was no topwater bite, but to say the least it was scary as hell.  No more boogie for Dave.

You have more control if you use a drill bit and just turn it with your fingers. Real easy.
The soldering iron is easy to get away from you making holes larger than you need.
For the large holes I filed down the edge of a piece of PVC to make it sharp and twisted it through the board.
