I built a sturgeon snare last weekend (as well as a shrimp pump), based on EK's design with a slight modification....

The line tensioner was hard to find, but I managed to find some at Walmart in Union City.  Just a heads up.

And if you're building one based on the plans in the Kuntz sturgeon article, you might want to use 1" PVC instead.  That way the tensioner can be press-fit into the end without using a cap and marine goop.

Thanks, Erik!!!  Sure wish I had made one a couple months ago.

Glad to hear you found a local store that still has the parts! Those line tensioners are getting tougher to come by since Home Depot stopped carrying them and I never saw one at Lowes when I was building mine. The local Ace used to have them, but they disappeared there too. With a little searching you can still find them online.

Saw this at www.hardwarestore.com listed under laundry equipment. You can also try a Google search for "clothesline tightener"

Dale Hardware in Fremont may still carry the tensioners.

I have an extra one in the garage...somewhere. If you're still striking out, Eric, let me know and I'll dig it up.
