I want to do some serious big sierra lakes topwater casting and trolling this spring for big browns. I have a few like a shad rap and minnow. They are floating for casting and trolling  but I want to improve my inventory of available go to lures. So if you wouldn't mind sharing what has worked for you I sure would appreciate it. Thanks, Craig

I use trout pattern rapalas when fishing for big browns, nothing else.

top 5:

1. trout pattern, small
2. trout pattern, medium
3. trout pattern, large
4. trout pattern, sinking
5. trout pattern, broke back (no relation to the cowboy movie)

I troll them fast.  I usually target the large browns before sunrise and right after sunset.  I do not frequently catch large browns when there is direct sunlight especially in high vis lakes.

I haven't been in years but I like the 11 and 13 in the Rainbow or Brown Trout Pattern when trolling fast if trolling slow I like the Broken back 11

When fan casting the flats I like the Long cast 11 or Husky Jerk 10 or 12 in the same colors although silver black back with a magic marker red stripe is good also.

My Ex Bro in law fishes Browns big time and they are using the Trophy Sticks a lot now, more money but they are tougher and you rarely lose them he hasn't changed over yet but some of his buddies swear by a Sure set hook on the tail.

Yes, very early or right at dusk. I have caught them during the day on inflated nightcrawlers in the deep arms of Lake Spaulding.

Rainbow, brown trout, and brook trout in J-7 and J-9 are my favorite Rapalas, but don't overlook the Jakes Lures in the Sierra. I've had great success with the Jakes Spin-a-lure in brass w/red spots in just about every Sierra lake I have fished, but the best success with the Jakes lures has been in northern Sierra Lakes, especially Bucks Lake in Plumas County.

Boy, after taking everyones input of their favorite lures for big trout, I went to
wally world to buy some. After everything was said and done, I spent $200
dollars on lures and some fishing lines. My eyes got big after everything was
totalled. Oh well, it's a hobby right?
