I'm gonna kickoff a 5 day fun-stuff-bonanza by doing some perching on Friday afternoon at Bolinas.

Low tide is ~2.30, I plan to get there ~noon to fish the slack for sharays and then the incoming for perch.

All company welcome.

How did it go? If I saw this post sooner, I would have joined you. I went to Poplar Beach at about noon and no luck.

I had fun, caught a load of perch, but had to wait until the tide had properly turned around. I'm always telling other people that the best perching is at the top of the tide but I'm always amazed at just how much of a difference it makes. I fished for 3h for nada. Then as the tide began to top out, he switch flipped and I was getting bit every cast. Kept the biggest one (I've never eaten perch before).

Also got to see some big Batrays and Leopard sharks cruising the shallows at low tide.

That's awesome, NB. Glad to hear you had a productive day on the beach today. Will wait to see your report with pictures(?) in the Reports forum.

When you say "top out", did you mean when the tide hit its lowest? Just want to make sure I understand it correctly to ensure future success. In other words, if the low tide was at 2:30, then you started catching fish after 2:30?

I am going to HMB tomorrow with a couple of friends and would love to catch at least a couple of perches. The forecast for tomorrow is:

2009-03-07  1:00 AM PST   2.75 feet  Low Tide
2009-03-07  6:32 AM PST   Sunrise
2009-03-07  6:46 AM PST   5.85 feet  High Tide
2009-03-07  1:56 PM PST  -0.57 feet  Low Tide
2009-03-07  6:09 PM PST   Sunset
2009-03-07  8:48 PM PST   4.81 feet  High Tide

I should start casting at 2 pm, correct?

---Joe

BTW, what were you using for bait?
