I decided that yesterday afternoon was just way too nice to go fishing in the kayak so I fertilized the lawn, went to Costco, and other unfinished stuff around the house.

This morning however was some real fishing weather. Got to the Folsom around 7:00 and the lake is up a good 10-feet from last Saturday. Went to the usual haunts (which are now 10-feet deeper) and marked fish and bait, but no takers. Decided to try a totally new plan and went to a sloping bank with two shallow points to throw rip baits in water between 6- and 12-feet. Caught a nice 14" smallmouth and then the wind (and cold) really kicked up so I went home for coffee and bagels. Felt good to finally stick something as I have been blanked on my last five trips. I actually had the camera in an otter box but it was raining so hard (and it's my wife's camera), I decided that trashing her camera wouldn't be a good idea. Next time, I promise!

Don't know what the water temp is as the transducer I have in this kayak doesn't have it, but the lake wasn't cold cold. Should be a couple of weeks and PRESPAWN BABY!!!!!!

Tight lines~!

Congrats on the nice smallie Rob.  Nothing like trying something new and being rewarded.

Time for a camera. :smt003

Thanks Bryon!

Yea, that was my second smallie at Folsom and the first wasn't much to write home about. This one was really sweet! Big red eyes and all shoulders! Hopefully I can get a few more, fingers crossed.

What's more important is that I caught this fish on a Lucky Craft Staycee 90. Last fall I ponied up for five Lucky Craft rip baits, three Pointers and two Staycee's and with 20% off (Bass Tackle Depot out of Oroville ran a sale), the bill came to $65. That's a lot for five pieces of plastic. But now it's all good and I caught a $65 smallmouth. The price per lure goes down with the more fish they catch.

Tight lines!

Nah, Rob has been around for awhile.  This was his first Folsom fish.

BTW, I meant nothing by it, hence the emoticon.  I mean, who am I to complain - not all of my reports are accompanied by pictures.  Just trying to expedite the purchase of a camera. :smt008

There a whole heck of a lot deeper now, take a look at the lake level as of today

NICE REPORT!
