I've read many of the install threads and have just one question.

Does the transducer have to be gooped to the hull?, or can it just be held in place with a snug fit in the noodle or foam ring adhered to the inside hull and still work correctly?

May be a stupid question, but I'm an idiot :smt002

you can noodle it, but you need water or vaseline or something to make an air-bubble free connection to the hull.
The sound travels through the hull, but any air bubbles and it basically won't work (the sound doesn't travel through the air very well, and will completely scramble the signal)

Some guys put a noodle circle, then fill that with water, some use vaseline...key is not to have any airbubbles

No there are dozens of more complicated and higher maintenance ways of getting a less reliable signal.

My noodle holder seems to work just fine!  I just fill it with water, since I pull it out every time.  Over a year later and the noodle still gives perfect suction when I slip in the transducer and doesn't leak!  Never had issues with bubbles.

My point exactly.  If it was properly installed with goop you would have forgotten about your transducer by now.

Thanks guys, looks like I'm gooping.

Next question, should the bottom of the transducer touch the hull?, or should it be slightly suspended off the hull once the goop is cured?

I know, sand the area first and avoid bubbles.

Thanks, Tad

Rough it up, wipe it with alcohol. and use only a small amount...slightly larger than a quarter.  Weight it down and let it sit undisturbed for at least 3-4 days.
