Maybe they should use the same process to raise the alcohol content of their beer.  :smt044

Costco in Danville has a Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA.  I bought a case today and just tried it and it's great.  The bottle doesn't list the alcohol content but I would guess it to be higher than their pale ale from the way it tastes.

Bottled Sierra Nevada Pale Ale has 1-2% higher ABV than it does on tap.  Something to keep in mind.  ;)  Also the article is a bit misleading, 1.6 million gallons of beer dregs only contains about 80k gallons of alcohol.  Their machine must also be adding more sugar to bump the alcohol level up to 15% before processing (even in the case of bigfoot).  I guess they're getting 1/3 of the way for free.  I'm a little disappointed though that they didn't build their own still - perhaps using waste heat from the steam system that powers their boilers.

I read the other day that biodiesel could be extracted from used coffee grounds.  Not viable at the coffee shop level, but it is at the frappachino bottling facility level.  Doesn't hurt for cars to leave behind the smell of hops and java after they pass.  ;)

I saw that at the grocery store yesterday and it's 7.2% I believe - as opposed to 5.6% on the Green Label I think.

I looked up the bottle vs keg thing for sierra nevada and found this:
http://www.byo.com/stories/techniques/article/indices/19-brewing-tips/1484-tap-vs-bottle-oxygen-safety-mr-wizard
"Sierra Nevada Pale Ale draft beer is different from its bottled cousin in that the draft form is a little darker and has a lower original gravity compared to the bottled version. Both beers are excellent. I assume that their draft Pale Ale is intended to be more of a session beer and the difference in the recipe makes it more quaffable."

I think we have a member that works at Sierra Nevada, but he could probably only answer "I can neither confirm nor deny...".
