A while ago I was in Walgreen's and they had some of these in the store.  I told GF I wanted one for Christmas, and wouldn't you know they were out of them.  Now I know some of you are laughing, ut I had one when I was kid, and used it for years for Trout fishing for native brookies back in Rhode Island.  Bull Briars grow like nowhere else I have ever been, and some streams are almost inexcessible because they are so thick.  Every other fishing rod I had would get snaged, caught on those damn things.  But the little Pocket fisherman never did, I carryed that and a small tub of worms or grubs and I was in Trout Nirvana.  I could never really cast beyond 30 feet with it, but I didn't need to.  I could under hand/over hand flip with it the small streams and brooks all day long.  For stuff like that, I thought it was the bomb.  I could see it being useful on motorcycle or when GF and I go out just paddling "Oh look some nice ...(fill in the blank)."   Now I don't belive for a moment your going to catch 20 pound salmon with it.  But for smaller fish sure, and yes I still want one.  Some times those National Guard Weekends/two weeks annual training put you right next to a stream begging to be fished.

I always thought it would make a great Sabinki rig?  It stores easily, slices, dices and julianne fries.

One of the party boats out of HMB does (or did) a 'toy/novelty rod' fishing derby. No reason it couldn't be done from a yak! It would be one hell of a post catching a ling on a barbie rod!

I once picked up a pocket fisherman when I was a kid at a garage sale.  Had a broken reel, which was inside it if I remember correctly.  I took a little reel I had and shaved the inside until it fit.  It was a blast for me to catch bluegill at the Campbell perk pods when I rode my bike down there.  Must have been about 12yrs old then!

I've heard of carp tourneys using ice fishing rods  :smt044  That sounds like a lot of fun!  I have something in the works that may be even better though!  Will be something like a shooting dart with a reel  :smt005 More on that some other day!

For a more serious form of that rod go to www.emmrod.com and check out their Kayak King models. I bought one on Ebay years ago. It was an original when they were called the "Stub-caster". Cost me $9.99 plus shipping.
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday!

Hey that Tourny thing sounds interesting.   Now where should we have it at? When?  and rules, one toy rod from a boat.  To chum or not to chum? what size line.  Pocket fisherman tricked out by Alan Tani are barred.  I can see it now a pocket fisherman casting a hundred yards!

Personally I have had my eye on this, for some tasty seakittens!  We definately need a princess barbie hello kitty seakitten tourney!  :smt003

I have actually been looking at these rods.  It uses a spring as the rod portion.  There are some good videos around of guys catching salmon and sturgeon on these.  They even have one names the Kayak King!

GF came across the Catfish article, apparently Dad ended up holding on the rod when daughter went to the Girl's room.  That is when he connected with the Cat.  He didn't think the rod would hold up.

My niece's boyfriend caught a bunch of bass on Lake George with a Snoopy rod. Pretty funny!
