I don't have any experience with this camera, but use GoPro products a ton, and am a total techie dweeb.

The camera specs are very similar to the GoPro.  Both are 5MP and shoot 1080 at 30fps and 720 at 60fps.  It does not have the super wide 170 degree FOV, or the depth capabilities of the GoPro, but for use on a yak, it is great.  The remote is a cool feature too.

The 8GB card is a little limiting for 1080 recording.  Consider a 16 or 32GB card to maximize record time to the battery life.

I've been looking at those; that's a great deal.  That said, I may go with the older model instead (ZX3) based on the reviews both on Amazon and other review sites.

I use the older white version (ZX3) and have no complaints. It's small, handy and works great on my kayak.

The SDHC card makes the difference on quality of video. Pay extra and get the Sandisk Extreme card (class 10) if you want the highest quality.

I've watching them too. The remote is the attractive part for me. Then you could leave it mounted on a pole in a rod holder or on the front of your yak. They seem to be ok in bright conditions and suffer more in low light.

The remote on the newer version would be a nice feature.

Here's a crappie video from the ZX3 Kodak PlaySport from earlier this year. I think I'm running 720/60fps on this film.

Kodak blew it!  They did not make the battery removable in the ZX5.  That is a major deal breaker for me.  I like the ZX3 a lot and I am hoping to get another one at a close-out price soon.  It is much easier to use than the Go Pro but most likely they will be used in different situations.

Ooter1 - they have the ZX3 on Amazon for $99.  Have you seen a lower price before?

Got pretty good reviews at Costco considering they have a 90 day return policy:

This is a great point.  I blow through two batteries on my GoPro every trip.  Being able to swap batteries on the fly is definitely a plus. I agree that the Kodak is not going to be strapped to the wing of an airplane or to a board on the half pipe, but I think for kayak fishing its a viable option.

I love my GoPros, but would like another camera to mount rear facing on the bow of my yak.  I'm considering one of these.  I wonder if you can charge it off a 12v while recording.

Staples had it recently for $31.50 on close-out but I was too late to get one.

Wish I would have seen that deal.  Lowest price I can find is $90 on Ebay for the Zx3.

They Did!  I have the Zx3 and had to carry 3 total batteries for my 16GB card.  I don't plan on getting this 2nd gen because of the battery issue.  If any plans to get the Zx5 make sure to add this guy http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=789.  I have one for my Zx3 and it make a differnce.

I'm wary of buying anything kodak, since they are on the verge of bk.  Shd be reorganizing w/in the next six months.  But have to admit these lil cams look pretty cool.
