Hi Tad
My wife and I will be fishing Black Butte and Whiskeytown this spring after the snow melts. We are new to kayaks also and only fish fresh water to date.
I see MattS from Red Bluff fishes the ocean and is interested in meeting local NCKA folks.
I will be glad to cross paddles with you and Matt this spring.
I have your info and will contact you when we are ready to go fishing.

I'll show you what I know when rockfish opens, which might not be much but it is free.  With swells around 11-14' my crabbing activity has been limited, with the right break in the weather I do get out.  You can tag along with me on a crab trip but like I said it's all weather dependent.

Hi Banjotad, yes I am in Red Bluff.  I fish Shasta alot, and have done Whiskey Town a few times; although mostly from my power boat.  I used to belly boat along the dam alot in winter and did well on trout and bass.  I have some spots which would be fun from the kayaks.  I have fished Lake Siskiou a few times from the kayak as well.  Lewiston would be fun to try!  Nice lake, I deer hunt around there.

I am still learning the ocean.  I fish and abalone dive in Fort Bragg some, and Southern California when I lived down there.  My parents bought a beach house in King Salmon, so am hoping to take some trips to Humbolt.  I used to fish the North jetty and public pier way back in High School.  I have the gear for the Ocean and really want to take some more trips.

I love Striper fishing the Sac river down by Colusa.  I know the river down there very well, and think it would be a blast off the kayaks.  Maybe a float trip from Princeton to Colusa.  I have hooked some sturgeon down there as well.

We can hook up and have some fun!  I am always looking for Fishing buddies.  I am on 12 hour shifts right now so usually have Sun-Tues off, with every other Wednesday.  Matt

I've been spending a lot of time up in the Redding area lately and would love hook up to hit the lakes around the area too. I'll be limited to weekends only. I'm working in Sacramento during the week.

Spring is better for me guys and I am waiting for my new kayak from adventure sports in sac. It is very difficult getting in and out of the wilderness in the winter.
hope the others can hook up with you Brian G

Hi Tad,

I've yak'd/fished pretty much every body of water around here and also make a few Trinidad runs during the summer.  With all the streams/rivers/lakes/ponds, there's always something on the bite within a 30 minute drive.

My wife and I just had a new baby last week, so my WAF points are totally wiped out.  I did manage to take our 2-year old shore fishing on Shasta this Saturday, that didn't work out too well with 150' of shoreline!  Anyways, welcome to the wonderful world of yak fishing!

When full, its 365 mile shoreline exceeds that of San Francisco Bay.
