Okay where are you putting in at and when?  This Dino thing is sounding pretty  interesting.  I know nothing about these, so what are the basics?

Congrat to Ravensblack and everyone who caught a Sturgeon that day.  Great stories and pictures!

Read KZreelrods' article for lowdown on the basics:  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=14

and Friday sounds like you'll be in good company if you can swing it. Sounds like people are going out this weekend as well.

I would still use wire leaders after seeing what that green sturgeon did to my wire leader. If I had been using mono that green sturgeon would be swimming around with two large hooks in its mouth. Yeah, someone will say they will rust out, but how long do you think that would take? Long time, real long time. I would also say hold the rod so you can feel every little nuance of line tension and rod movement.

I USED to use them wire leaders, but after stressing it(landing a fish) or even landing a shaker, the plastic coating stretches, the cable wire does not, resulting in a spring-like coil. Now if your leader is "coiled" you're gonna have a harder time detecting bites. Yes you can change out the wire after every skate or ray, but if you go with 60-80lb. mono leader, you'll be able to use it for multi-trips/fish/ snags or rays.
tip# 1a. from the SturgeonKing himself.

With you on this 100% - keeps your bait from jerking around less from boat motion and you won't miss (as many) bites this way.
