I like Verizon much better than AT&T. With AT&T, I could stand in plain view of another caller down the block, and the call would be dropped. Now,the few times that I've experienced dropped calls or fuzzy voice quality is when I talk to someone who has an AT&T cell.

Thanks hojo...thats what I keep hearing.  I think I have ebay figured out and I think I'll just buy something CHEAP until my AT&T expires...wish we has a Target...that sounds even easier.

I just Googled used AT&T cell phones....and got this. These are the UNDER $60. You just need to make sure its an ATT/Cingular phone OR an 'unlocked' phone (any carrier is fine if its unlocked). The locking aspect has to do with the carrier. They (carriers) lock the phone so it can only be used with their network. That is how they can sell you a phone for $0 with a two year contract. Basically, you can't leave them and use the phone with another carrier. But you may want to try and go into a AT&T store as see if they have a cheap used one in the back...I bet they do!

If you don't have a target maybe a walmart or any other discount store that has prepaid phones. As long as its ATT.....

Don't get a new contract, there are tons of cell phones on CL for cheap. Just swap in your SIM card.

If you go for a new contract, check out all the other first, (MetroPCS is unlimited calling for $40 a month, ATT HATES THEM) If you are going to go back to ATT/Cingular, ask for "customer retention", tell them you have been a customer for XXX years, and since you are out of contract, you are considering Metro PCS
. See what they will offer you, after you get their best deal, ask for a supervisor, then negotiate for 6th month and 12th month free of charge. They CAN authorize it, even if they say they can't. Make sure they have your contact info, and when they say they can't give it to you, tell them you are going to Metro PCS tomorrow. You WILL get a phone call offering you a FREE new phone AND 2 FREE months.

I have AT&T...my old phone just died, my contract expires soon. I don't want a cheap phone from AT&T if it means another 2 years...where can you just buy a reasonably priced phone free of hassle?

I go through this process every few months after i drop/dunk another cellphone

I got fed up of flakes and freaks on craigslist so I bought my latest from here; www.dotcells.com
They are all unlocked so you just pop in yr SIM card and you're ready to go. I am very happy with mine; 35 bucks for a decent phone in immaculate condition.

My first razor got swamped by a wet wetsuit and I had to borrow my daughters go phone for a couple weeks.  They are pretty crappy replacements, speaker/volume horrible, static, all that good stuff.

I unintentionally abuse cell phones, my last phone insurance carrier cancelled my policy. :smt011  Eric, how is the GZ holding up?

You may recall my post earlier on the G'zone.  I was initially quite happy to find a phone that was waterproof, rugged and even had an electric compass on it.

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,14398.msg135395.html#msg135395

But, as I mentioned, I found it clearly had reception problems (noticed especially inside buildings--but where I never had noticed reception problems with my LG phone)  And I heard annoying back talk, where I could here my own voice reflected back to me.  Nevertheless, I kept trying to make it work, but what finally made the decision to return it was the very short battery time I got with it.  It would die within three days of limited use (mainly standbye) and what really bothered me was that it would show 2 of 4 bars on the battery and then go completely dead without warning.  I know the others posted that their phones were working great so I don't know if mine was just a lemon or a weak battery.  But as I had only one day left on the 30 day trial period, I didn't want to take any chances and exchanged it for an upgrade of the LG I had been using.  This gave me great, clear reception in the same areas where the G'zone wasn't even getting out.

So if you try it and it works well, maybe I'll try it again in the next cycle, and then I'm sure it will be the new and improved version anyway.

I have been with Verizon for allmost 4 years and I got the GZ1 had it for 2 years now
and it still going strong I will resign with them for another 2 years and get a new GZ1

this phone do have bad speaker but it is worth it because you can just wash it off after
a trip on the water gets good reception you can check your email get weather and more
+ you can beat the shit out of this phone and it just comes back for more :smt005

so the bottom line is if you are a kayaker this is the phone for you or
until they make a something better as far as internet go's.

I just switched to AT&T because i had to get this iPhone. The service sucks! In this area US Cellular is the king, hands down!

Not only is AT&T service terrible, they look for every excuse to raise rates. My landline rate was just increased 25 percent even though I rarely ever use my landline for local calls; so I'm looking for a different landline service...maybe Ooma.

Little known clause- at least in the Sprint contract, is that you get a free basic phone every year on your contract anniversary date. Might want to hope down to the AT&T store and ask, then you only pay the difference between teh phone you want and the basic...or free is good!
