Why hasn't anyone hailed the coast guard on their VHF yet?

I was assuming that the yaks were far apart, thats why only one got on the ill fated boat.  Also assumed that no one had a radio, thats why they were screaming for help from the boat.

Totes point is a good one though, how fast can it really go from perfect to white out?  How many warning signs other than the weather report would there be?

Pretty damn fast.  By some accounts these guys were right outside the harbor mouth.  Storm came on very, very quickly.  A lot of boats were caught off guard.  Even if they knew where shore was, it sounded like they had a hard time getting to it.

One lesson I'm taking away from this is to not assume it can't happen to me.  If it does happen, I'd like to think I'll have some idea what to do.
