Just a little story. Yesterday on the Queen of Hearts(most likely in Pescadero), a big rod-bending ling, seconds from getting gaffed was taken off the hook by a Great White(jig and all). You can read about it here; just scroll down to fishing summary http://www.fishingboat.com/report.html#summary
I know that decky; can't wait to talk to her.-Lee

:smt009 Can you imagine seeing a GW snag a ling from Kayak fisherman?   :smt010

At least he'd have a fully tummy then...
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

that's a good story.

It's strange to think you have a big fish, only to see it chowed off the line.

Had a blackfin tuna in the 10lb range on a party boat in FL, got eaten by a brown shark, about 80lbs was the captain's guess. In this case, the brown shark was hooked and got him to the boat, released. bummed because I landed a 14lb skipjack but those are not easy eating, whereas the blackfin are reputedly good and I still haven't had one.

pulled what I thought was a big mangrove snapper (wasn't that big, but was big to me) out of the water just ahead of a big atlantic great barracuda.

all one's expectations get reset. A big ling is dinner for 12 people, but just a snack to a GW.

Awesome story. I bet whites don't get to eat lings very often because of lings being bottom fish and all. Probably a rare treat for that GW, like ablies from a kayak.
