Well after using the search function for a few days, I ordered my wife and I, a set of the Uniden Voyagers.  I got them from Planet GPS, great site!  I was going to get just one, but my wife wanted one to call me back to shore....honest honey I couldn't hear you  :smt002....Well I guess it will be good for safety and she has a little OK Frenzy she likes to take out.

I went back and forth between the ICOM and Uniden, but liked the small size and 3 channel scan of the Uniden.

Planet GPS has the radios for 129.00 a piece right now if any one is looking, but they only have the titanium colored ones left.  I can't wait to get them.  My sister works at West Marine and couldn't beat that price!

Has anyone tried attaching a floating key laynard to see if the radio floats?  I will likely just teather it to my PDF.  Also what is the max practical range of these little radios?  I will be intrested in putting them to the test.

Thanks for all the past posts and advice on here, it made the purchase quite a bit easier!  Now I have to try to get into one of the tourneys this next year!  I love buying toys...I mean gearing up!

I did my first yard sale on my last trip of the year ay Ft Ross). I got everything back except for one gopher that revived and swam off with me chasing and people on the hill laughing. Everything went in the water but I found it all except my Uniden Voyager. Eric came up a few minutes later and found it on the bottom. The radio still works great and I like it but it doesn't even kinda float. You might be able to use it to anchor over a hot spot.

I would buy the voyager again but mine will be tethered from now on.

The only thing damaged by the smashing in the surf was my Hobie rod holder (the kind that fits in the flushmount). It broke where the insert mates to the hollow tube. I gooped it together and it looks almost like new but I don't know how sturdy it will be.

I fished Van Damme, Albion, turnouts south of point arena and Ft ross all summer with no problems. The one day nothing was tethered down, I rolled in the surf.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

I've had one for about a year (@ GB2's recommendation).  Everything has been pretty good.  I did go a round with their repair dept. due to my own recklessness & they kind of pissed me off service wise.  But they did fix the unit for free & I believe they have a lifetime or close to lifetime warranty on the unit.

It works really well, has a lot of features-none of which i use.  But I would recommend it for sure.  It's great compact size & performs really well.  It also makes me feel much more secure when I'm a mile or so offshore in a remote area.

Good Luck,
PJ
