If you do not like this one, what Eagle model would you recommend. I was going to get the Eagle 128, but I don't think it is still available locally in the Bay Area as I believe this model# is now discontinued... perhaps there is a new replacement that runs on (8AA batteries). Thanks for any tips or advice. -RF&D

Hi Red!  :smt006

The eagle 242 is exactly what I use and I have no complaints. It has been going strong for about a year and a half now for me without incident. If I had a bit more cash I might upgrade to the Eagle 250 w/GPS just so I could dial in my trolling speeds a bit better and mark the "honey holes" I've found, but otherwise the 242 has been a really good and economical fish finder.

If you possibly can get one with at least GPS for all the reasons F-J mentioned, and also the map feature is muy importanto in the fog and just about anywhere in the delta. My friend has the 250, very nice unit, and I love his map...

I have the 240 FF/GPS, and am upgrading to FF/GPS/Map sometime this spring,  gonna keep the 240 too.

I have the 242 and it seems to work just as well at my more expensive lowrance units on my boat.  I have used it in fresh and salt water with no problems.  It worked great finding abalone spots, nice knowing how deep the bottom is before you dive!  Great little bargin unit in my opinion.  I got mine after reading all the reviews on this site.  Good luck.  Matt
