had yesterday off work and i ventured to hmb for dungeness crab. in short, yes the crabs are there but they are sparse. i managed a few after a tip from a commercial guy in a skiff. really nice guy who advised me to go where his pot string was.

the crab were good size but it sure was frustrating pulling up nothing but big rock crab for the first 6 drops. i dont eat rock crab myself so i was throwing them back. some were around 8" across the top shell so if you like rock crabs this is also a good place for them.

i must have pulled over 20 rock crabs up and 3 dungeness at the end. i had to get going home because i was hungry. i'll be back another day though!

Talked with a patient yesterday who lives in Half Moon Bay and she asked me if I'd gone over there to buy any crab "on the one day they had some to sell"

She said the season has been so poor that some the commercial crab boats aren't even bothering to go out.

My GF and I rode over there last weekend and saw a half dozen boats selling them on the pier up the road.  I thought of buying some, but I really don't feel like cleaning out crab smell out of the "King."  I saw one guy who had a home made rack made for his motorcycle to carry a narrow but tall cooler so he could haul crabs home in.  I have a luggage rack on the back of my cycle and an old playmate cooler, and some tie down strapps, I can see some crab hauling going on, or for that matter any other fish.
