i would not recommend kayaking in the west delta until this fog leaves for a while.

wow that was very foggy. we launched (pb) from martinez at 8 am, visibilty was about 100 feet. using radar and chartplotter we inched our way towards mbf. i must admit the clatter and horns of the trains on the bridge put me on edge! we anchored in 18 ft on the sandbar and proceeded to feed many shrimps to unknown and presumably very small nibblers. when the fog lifted and noon we moved to zuma where we landed several small stripers and one keeper at 19". grass and shad.
good to be home and warm with a nice neat scotch!

now that's some GREAT&USEFUL INFO, Chris! it seems that when you go out, you are really thinking of what to "head" your report with. If you group it up like that, no one really opens it up, and they are sure gonna be missing some good stuff that might even save their life, somewhere down the straight or even into the bay.

...Which reminds me of a little story~
I was in my PB, with a co-worker who had already bought bullheads, on his way from Fremont. It was foggy as hell(not even 25ft. of vis.) we were going to the fleet(up river from marina, be there in 10 min. usually) So I follow a boat, leaving out of the marina, figuring two is better that one. He cuts straight across the Carquinez, guessing it would be easier to navigate from the opposite shoreline, I followed. He disappeared into the fog shortly after that. Now I've been here MANY TIMES before, so I knew if I kept going, I would eventually cross under the BeniciaBridge and be close to the MBF. Well after 30min. passed and no sighting of a overhead bridge, I began to panic a bit.
We finally hit a shoreline, but according to my memory(yes! i still have some left)
it did not look like the shoreline we "should have hit". Not knowing where I was, I motored along the shore, looking for something firmilliar. We happened to see a boat with PEOPLE on it!, I asked them,"where are we" they replied,"West Benica" and then told us what direction we needed to go, inorder to get back to the MartinezMarina.
We headed in that direction(eastward) but the lack of vis. kept me from going over 5mph.
Resulting in, getting pulled out towards the SanPabloBay/CarquinezBridge. I finally saw a firmilliar landmark, after three hours had passed. It was EckleyPeir......another 10min. longer? and we would have been getting an underneath tour of the VallejoBridge instead of the one that is about 15miles up-current.

in other words.......I was lost and doing circles in the Carquinez for three hours!
luckly the fog started to burn off and my friend had a sense of humor.
If you've ever been in the CarquinezStraight, between the two bridges mentioned? You should be laughing hard too!

moral of story...if you can't see where you're going? HOW THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT to GET THERE!
