I'm gonna go out to Big Lagoon and look for steelhead and cutts,  or maybe freshwater lagoon for bass/trout on Saturday.  Pretty much a sure thing for at least a few either way.  Will be out around sunrise at (0730).  Any company more than welcome!

I'm down, DrtyRussin.  Should we launch at Big Lagoon along 101 and then pull out to hit Freshwater if no luck?  What type of tackle?  I'm inclined to troll a Panther Martin, Little Cleo or Kastmaster, but I'd be open to a little bait fishing if you dial me in on a method.  On the bass at Freshwater, I've never caught one - I have a couple of frogs and one other floating lure - do I need some Rattletraps/other too?

I need some yak-time bad!  Glad to see your hookup.  Hopefully I can convince one or both of my kids to come along.

Sounds good.   So I'll be using regular light trout tackle (4 lb test), but I bring a slightly larger rig along just in case.  I'll be using little spinners or flies behind a float, the smaller the better.  I've caught a few and graphed alot of fish suspended out in the middle, and the kastmasters and spoons work out there, but the shallow fish in clear water really spook from heavy stuff.   Bait works great here, but I hesitate because steelhead are catch and release only (they're most of the catch) and they tend to swallow the bait really well.  I think that those long shank worm hooks with no barb should make release easier, if I can find some.  Night crawlers for cutts that we might spot in the shallows works great.
And for freshwater lagoon, the bass are probably pretty sluggish this time of year because of the cold water so jigs are the ticket, I've got plenty. But bring the frogs for sure! That place is always froggy looking.  They stock plenty of trout in there, so hopefully we can find a few for the pan.  Either way, there's plenty to try up there and somethings gotta work!
