ANGELS CAMP - New Melones Lake will begin charging visitors a day use fee effective Oct. 1.

The $6 per car day use fee is part of a larger program of fee increases and new fees intended to raise money to improve and maintain facilities at the lake. New Melones is operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

In addition to the day use fee, there also will be a new $8 per day fee for boat launching. The day use fee is included in the boat launching fee. Visitors also can obtain an annual day use pass for $40 or an annual boat launching pass for $60.

Earlier this year, recreation managers raised fees for camping at the lake. Information: (209) 536-9543.

No! That means more lice for Hogan.  Melones does have some of the nicest facilities around.

I think the best deal around, now that New Melones is no longer free, is Hogan. Just $4 or $2 for us old geezers.

I guess if you don't want to use Tuttletown or GloryHole you can always go up to the 49 Bridge or Parrots Ferry.  Speaking of which I think I may go chase some spawning kokes for AOTY point.
