I planed to dive Ft Ross today since I was solo, thought the safer the better, but as I got up along the coast the conditions were just fantastic.  So I headed for my current favorite spot, the south side of Horseshoe cove.  Took lots of pics till the camera died, got home, found salt water in the battery compartment, which is not sealed from the rest of the camera, will see how Olympus backs it products.

But back to the day,

What can I say, it has to be extremely calm to get in there and today the combination of tiny swells and an offshore flow turned it into a big saltwater aquarium, Today was just perfect

Well except for the one swell that rolled thru, I looked up in time to see it coming so I let go of the tube and dove into the froth, I pretty much stayed put, but the tube ended up about 25yds away upside down, a little schooling is a good thing and the ocean is always willing to give lessons, no harm no foul.

Just an ab dive, nothing big , 8&1/2, 8&3/4, and 8&7/8, no 9s today.  I tend to get in a hurry and am not a good trophy hunter, so I get what I get.

But knowing this may be my last trip to Horseshoe I spent an hour or so after getting my abs just cruising around thru the rocks and kelp checking out the multitude of abalone that that will probably be safe from me for a really long time.

That place is just beautiful, but if it goes into the reserve I won't be back, I discovered long ago that I'm not interested in diving our coast unless I can kill something and eat it.  The tropics are someting else, but even there it can get boring without drawing a little blood.....

I turned 56 on Nov 7th, on Nov 12th, I caught my first yak sturgeon (56") which is my biggest fish ever, on the 18th I went out of Ft Ross in the fog, slow day, but did pick up a ling, and today, 3 nice abs in my favorite spot,,,,, OK winter I'm ready.

Dale, I am glad to hear that you went up to Horseshoe. That is without a doubt my most favorite place on the whole north coast to dive. Starting at the north end of Fisk Mill and going to the creek at the northern boundary leaves a person with enough room to dive for a lifetime.I never have dove at that big rock slide on the south side and it looks like maybe I won't get that chance. Hopefully the fiscal crisis that faces the Ca. government will slow down any new restrictions. I wish I could have been there today with you. I am stoked that you got a beautiful day to dive. Those days are the ones that go down in memory as just awesome experiences. You have really been hot the last month. The 18th I was out there also and got that big ab. We will definetly have to hook up sometime for fishing or diving. Sorry about your camera. Shots of the water today would have been great. Thanks for the report. Craig

I'm jealous! I'm out of abs but my brother has 3 more and if I'd been ready for these conditions I would have dragged him up there because we share our abs anyway! I've only been there twice but I'm really bummed about the MLPA threatening to swallow it up, and I agree that I will not go all the way up there just to sightsee. I need to take a few meals away with me.

Just curious did you try and grab the photos off the Card?
