Great fight and great read!!

I am curious as to which is Nurple Point.  i wonder if i've surfed it.  A Big  or Little male goose, perhaps?

Quite an adventure, WTG!!

Wow!  Great write up, you guys should seriously put thresher in the title of this report though.  Best fightin fish pound for pound.  Congrats on catching that beast.  I was using 20lb when I caught mine.  All I did the whole time was pray my line wouldn't fail.  Wow again.    :metal JTF

JTF, Everyone,

I read your report of your Thresher (see JTF's link further back in post for his story).  Killer.

It sounds like your Thresher did the exact same thing as mine did on hookup;  my line just started going slack, to the point it was pooling up on the surface in a small pile.  I'm guessing that they may hit it from underneath & come up, that would account for our line just going slack.  Another one I hooked a couple months ago did the exact same thing.

Fortunately this one never went on a hyper-drive run straight away from me.  It seemed to mostly have his body perpendicular to me the whole entire time.  I kept pretty heavy pressure on the fish & I think that probably played a part in keeping him perpendicular to me, which keeps him from getting his tail wrapped in the line, something that's crucial if you're going to boat one of these.  The one I hooked a couple months ago, i kept light pressure on the line & he got tail wrapped, and broke the line.

In summary, after my 2 hookups with Threshers this is what i would do in the future.  If your line starts pooling on the surface, reel like mad to bring tension on it as quickly as possible, it's probably a Thresher.  Keep solid pressure on the fish but be ready for a hyper-drive run @ any moment.  Play the fish for at least an hour before you attempt to bring him anywhere close to your yak.  Keep others a decent distance from your yak when bringing him to color as he seemed to get spooked a couple times when Greg came in.  Have your buds approach slowly, grab his tail, with a glove & haul him onto your lap upside down.

Cheers,
PJ
