Camped and dove out of Stillwater on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Got a late start on Tuesday. Water was pretty much flat. A small, 2-3' glassy swell from the NW.
Paddled south from Stillwater to domed birdsh*t rock and dove in 15' FOW just below the second house ( 5 big windows) south of the park. Visibility was about 10-12' and it was a little surgey. Big abalone everywhere but clamped down tight in the surge. Got a nice limit of 9's. Unfortunately I lost a fin and never found it. Kind of fun dolphin kicking down with 1 fin, spinning in circles. Fog moved in tight late evening and closed everything down. Sent my abs home with a friend that is unable to dive. He was grateful for the feast.
Wednesday, I think the ocean was even flatter, and vis opened up to over 15'. Not a ripple until about 11:00, then a little wind chatter on top but that was it. Moved a little further south than Tuesday and found lots of fish to spear and more big abs. DiverDoug got a near 10. All were again over 9.

Thats great to hear. I first dove by the big round rock in 1974. I haven't dove there for over 20 years and it makes me happy to know that there are still big abs there! Just on the house side of that big round rock in about 10-12ft there is a little cave that goes back in about 8ft. I got pushed in there once and waited for the swell return and it pulled me right back out. Congrats on the abs and fish. What kind of fish and how big. Donde esta los photos? Gracias, Craig

I believe my fin may now be living in that cave. That is the exact spot!
No camera on the trip. I got a nice size cabezon and a couple of bigger olives.
I'm always amazed how the cabs will just sit there and let you shoot them. I'm sure they believe they are invisible. Last year I swam down on one and grabbed it with my hand from above. I got a stuck thumb out of it that was swollen and sore for 3 weeks. My wife just shakes her head and sighs.
