Ok even though it's a non yak report Ill share my day.Met up with my Uncle and Cousin at the Pittsburg Marina at 7:30 and we headed out to catch some sturgeon. I was excited because I hadnt even seen a sturgeon in person until today. We caught the end of the outgoing tide. W anchored up and casted our ghost shrimp out. We got a bunch of nibbles. A few small stripers came in first then my uncle caught a shaker sturgeon. I still hadnt caught anything yet and now the tide was slack. I finally get some small pumps and set the hook. Fish on! Easy fight and I pull up a shaker sturgeon. Yay! My first one. I wasnt expecting to catch a huge one today but I reached my goal. After the tide turned to a strong incoming we catch some small stripers and I finally get a decent pump. Set the hook and this time it feels slightly bigger. Get it up. Nope another small shaker sturgeon, it had one hook in the mouth and the second in the fin so it was spiraling up making it feel bigger. I had an awesome day, 2 sturgeon, a few small stripers and a sculpin. Pretty awesome! Thanks Ray!

Small or not looks like stugeon is pretty hot right now,

Good job, on the first and second,

I probably had the worst luck of anyone I know, but when I was younger I kept track of my catches and got 13 shakers before I ever got a keeper and that was back when it 40"

Very cool

Thanks, these little guys fight pretty decent for their size. I can only imagine what a good sized one would be. As soon as I get them down in the boat then I can switch to the yak. I dont know if I'd like to be out in that big water in a kayak. That water can get pretty nasty and fast moving out there

Hey Jeff...I really enjoyed your company today. I am glad you decided to make the trek out here to spend some time fishing with us. Not bad for your first sturgeon outing. It was a slow day and you still managed to land two shakers. I am definitely on a mission to catch a keeper sturgeon this year so you will be getting an invite again very soon  :smt003 :fish !! Thanks again for bringing the milk crate. I will be putting it to good use.

That looks like fun, congrats on getting a couple of fish you were targeting.  I'm not sure if it is legal or not, but that sculpin looks like it wouldn't last long as a striper bait!

the picture is not the clearest, but looks like a bullhead to me.  so yes, definitely legal as striper bait!

congrats jeff on those two little sturgeon - wait until you hook up a big one =).  I have never caught one yet and am trying to figure out where and how to target them safely from my yak.  I definitely think that pittsburg is a little too big of water to be anchored in a yak, especially with all the big boats that pass by that area.  but some areas around rio vista may work.  if me and gatorjit can figure it out we will let you know for sure!

Cool, Jeff - you'll be catching big dino's from your yak in no time.   :smt001

Thanks for the report and pictures Jeff. I have caught my fair share of sturgeon
but that was on the banks. The last sturgeon I caught was 62" long 63lbs and I
fought it for 45minutes. I wonder how it would be on the kayak.

Jeff that bullhead is top of the line striper bait. Stick a hook in the lip and send it back down,

Congrats on the cute micro-dinos...those are cool.  The sculpin really do HAMMER the big stripers.
