Besides not winning the T13, another fallout from the recent MBK derby was that I got my cellphone run over by a car (long story...).

So Monday I had to get in to Verizone to get it replaced as it's essential for work.  Was going to just get my LG replaced when the saleman mentioned to me that the phone that got crushed was already a replacement phone.  I recalled that about 2 years ago, I had used it once back on land and slipped it into my pocket.  The residual salty moisture in the pocket was enough to kill the phone (By the way that little round dot inside the battery compartment is what they look at when determining your phone got dunked--red hatch lines turn dot all pink).

I mentioned to the guy that it got damaged when I was kayak fishing and he asked if I might want to consider the Casio G'zone phone:  It's water resistent to 1 meter x 30 min, floats and also has an electronic compass.

So I got one.  But since I really hadn't done any research on this phone, and have 30 days to return it, I wondered if anyone has any feedback on this phone, pro and con?

well I have a the type s . Well I love the phone for the most part. The screen could be better. camera suck. Mine doesn't float though.
Does your actually float? I would check its floatability before going out.

You're right.  It doesn't float.  The Verizon salesman said they had a demo display floating in a tank of water for a quite awhile and I thought that he meant that it floats.  But I guess he just meant it was sitting in a tank of water.

I have the original gzone and no issues whatsoever.  It's been wet, but not submerged.  It's a tough phone.

I am really hard on phones, lost 2 to water, 1 to oil, ran one over with a tractor, and dropped one from 2 stories up.  My latest is the older verison of the Casio Gzone.  So far so good, I love this thing.  I can hose it off when its dusty, and just add a keychain float when on the water.

also the larger size forces me to put it back in the clip instead of 'temporarily' putting it in a t shirt pocket.  Thats the direct cause of all but one of the other phone deaths.

I didn't remember to update my experience with Casio G'zone phone:

I used it for about a month but found that it continued to have poorer reception than my regular LG phone and I'd hear an annoying back talk of my own voice in some situations.  I really liked the idea of having a water proof phone so I didn't have to be so phobic about getting it wet...but the deciding point was short battery time.  I kept having to charge it every 1 1/2 to 2 days unlike the 3-4 days I'd get with my LG.  And when the G'zone would get down to two of the four bars it would suddenly go completely dead without warning.

So one day before the 30 day trial period was over, I returned it for the newer model of the LG I had previosly.  I'll just have to wait until they get the kinks worked out. The water protection and electronic compass was a plus, but it meant reducing the battery volume in their design and that was not a good trade off.

wow, doesnt sound like my phone at all.  Sound is great, battery life is long, and the battery meter actually works compared to all my other electronic stuff.   Either you got a lemon or mine is blessed.

Ditto...  my original Gzone is a year old now and with Verizon I get reception a lot of places most other people can't, and a charge lasts at least a week under normal use, (although admittedly I'm not chatty on the phone).

Maybe I just got a lemon, but with time running out, I didn't want to keep sucking on it.

I have the same thing but a lot older and it's good not worrying about h2o and drops

and I've gotten calls 4 or 5 miles off of Stinson including a wrong number

The speaker phone on mine sucks though, can't hear anything in a squall. Handy if the wife calls and you want to keep fishing :cowboy_smoke:

I'd be interested to know if they fixed that
