We fished the fort Fri with Jason and Northern Boy. We caught a lot of small stuff and one good red. Had a good time but nothing to brag about fish wise.

We went back out Sat and yaked out to the middle of the kelp bed and found a clearing. We grabbed our six abs and then started fishing. We ran into Jonesz and caught 4 lings one of which was a keeper (my first keeper) and the others were 21-23". Jonesz caught a bunch of lings also. I caught a legal Cab also. I threw back over 20 rockfish. It was very foggy but there was no wind at all either day. That was our first trip to the fort and I was impressed with it. I think we would have done better but I forgot the battery to my sonar.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

Sorry I didn't make it over to say hello on Friday, but it was time for me to go.

My buddy Tom and I were fishing farther south and also had a time with the fog...it was very thick at times.

The GPS sure came in handy though.

How did you like that cannon fire?

S.

Thanks for the report amphibian. I had all of my things packed the night before
to join you guys but woke up with a migraine headache. I was really looking
forward to rock fishing.

Nice job Merv!  You got the keeper ling taken care of now, look out next season!!  Let me know if you are going to hit the fort again before the season closes.  I'd like to give it a try to close things out and will bring my crab pots too.  I have gotten a few there before......

Amphibian, Northern Boy, Slammer, Manny, and Tom:

Thanks for a fun day on Friday.  The conditions couldn't have been better (minus the cannon fire).

Fishing: I ended up catching a wide assortment of RF (China, Brown, Blue, Black, Gophers, plus others), one keeper Ling, and a few undersized lings.  I had a pretty consistent bite all day long.

Crabbing: I did catch a few larger Rock Crab and some really small Dungies throughout the day, but all of them went back.

I left my ab gear in the car.  I was way too tired to give it a go.  One day I'd like to crab, fish, and ab in one day.

I'll try to post the few pictures tonight.

Thanks again,

Jason

Plenty of lings to be had, but the other's were tougher to find. I got one nice verm along with the lings. Glad I decided to give it a go. Might not get another chance this year. It gets harder and harder to find a window as the season goes on. Right as I pulled out a squall it that threw buckets of water for a few minutes and blew like hell, then it was gone... Next morning the sea just looked nasty!!!!
