Hey kiel, well the weather ain't looking so good.  But don't let that stop you! :smt044

As for tactics, depends if you want to keep it simple, or step up your game to ubergeeky fishing.  anyone who goes sat will likely be trolling.  can you imagine sitting in your boat getting pounded by the rain, just sitting there? :smt002

Simple = spinning tackle 6-10 mono tied straight or barrel/snap to your favorite lure (humdinger/ BBR/ kastmaster) with about 50-70 feet line paid out.  I like a 1/4 oz silver kastmaster b/c you can quickly switch to vertical jigging if you mark some fish.  Have picked up smallies exactly that way at DV, though I was trolling for trout targets.

More sophisticated = well, just read any of the stevens creek posts from Jmairey, loch lomond/DV posts from GB2, or the trout article from the main page.

I think we can count on rain on Saturday, but I may bring a stove and some coffee to share for when I get off the water. I plan on arriving at the parking lot at 8:00 am or maybe a little earlier.

As far as how to fish for trout, here's my set up: I'll be running two rods, both spooled with 8lb braid and a 4 lb flourocarbon leader. I'll be trolling about 50-100 feet back using Jointed Rapalas, J-5's and J-7's. I just troll along slow enough that my rod tip vibrates from the action of the lure. The biggest tip I can give you is that when a fish strikes don't stop paddling right away. I give another stroke before I reach for my rod to make sure that I'm able to keep tension on the line as I'm getting the rod out of the holder.

See you Saturday!

Humm.... I probably wont make it Saturday, but am thinking of heading out Sunday.

Saving Saturday for recovery from Halloween partying!  I hope the inspections aren't an issue.  Last place I went was DV, so if they take my word for it and accept the last inspection I had, should be good to go!

If anyone is turned away, would appreciate a heads up!

Just found out that there is the potential for my walk to be over by 9AM.  :kick :smt038

If I have my stuff packed up and leave from there, I could be at the lake by 10.  Now I just need to get clearance.  Although she might not be thrilled since her plans appear to be washed away with the rain.  I'll hold my breath and cross my fingers.

I'm going to have to take an, ahem, rain check on this one folks; my original plan of crabs and rockfish looks like it might work on Sunday after all.

Bummer you cant make it NB, but I understand the draw to the ocean. Looks like there will be a few of us there in the morning, and by the afternoon the wind may pick up. If I don't don't meet a few folks in the lot, give me a holler on CH69  :smt006

My hopes of attending were dashed last night. :smt011  I was reminded of all the honey-do's.

On the bright side, not attending has earned me some extra WAF.

You win some, you lose some.

I look forward to the report.  I have a feeling that it will be WFO.

it should be pretty good.  DFG website shows they've stocked the $hit out of that place, but then again, we're talking about dfg...
