Trolled for Stripers out of Big Break this morning.  The bite was hot most of the morning but most of the fish were small.  I released a couple of good ones around 20"-22" early thinking I would get bigger ones but the rest of the morning only produced "shorties".  The best bite was in 12 to 15' of water with good current.  The water glassed off around noon and the bite seemed to slow considerably.  Still lots of fun to catch.  Even the small ones put up a pretty good fight.  Rattle Traps continue to work well.

Thanks for the report Martin.  Congrats on finding the fish that have been hiding from us so well.

Martin

Will have to get a delta striper lesson from you. You seem to have it dialed in. I think I live in your hood.

Congrats on finding some keepers, they have become rare lately.  I'm hoping the next full moon brings another wave in.  Then some might become medium rare..   :chef:

Way to go on the stripers Martin. I wish it wouldn't rain this Saturday. I planned
on going to Benicia for some striper Chase.

Nice job Martin. Sounds like you had some excitement. Way to go on finding the stripers. I am starting to think my favorite lure is broken as I have not been able to land another striper in my last four outings.

How are you getting out to Big Break? I was over that way with my daughter about three weeks ago and ended up paying the $10 to launch. I was hoping for a free access point to this area without having to paddle from the Antioch free launch.

Thanks,
Ray

Launch fee at Big Break is now $10 vs the $5 they were charging earlier in the year. The good thing is; the ramp is easy to launch from and the parking is secure.  It's nice to know your car is going to be there after a long day of fishing.  I'm not aware of any place near that you can launch without the fee.  There's a new park under consstruction with a fishing pier, but so far there's not a place to launch.  As far as finding the fish goes; I have lots of hook-ups with rattle traps as long as I can keep them from snagging the grass.  If they have any grass attached at all, even a very small strand, the action changes and the fish don't bite.  You can generally feel the snags but I still reel it in and check it frequently.  I hooked a few at Sherman Island last week, but Big Break has been the most productive spot.

Thanks Martin. I thought that was the case. I believe the water is about 1/4 - 1/2 mile from the new park you mentioned. A bit of a hike without a cart. I scoped that out first before paying the $10 to launch.

I did notice quite a bit of grass in the water several weeks ago that would make trolling a little difficult. Thanks again for the great info and maybe I will see you out there one day.
