Mooch, Scott or whoever…let me know at time to meet at Fisherman’s Warehouse to taste some of my Sesame/Peanut seared ahi with wasabe mayo!!!

Sorry for the late report but here it is!

We usually hit the East cape in Oct but we thought we would try something different and head to PV. This was our first trip so we had no clue what to expect.. Fishing was good and we learned a lot!! Send me a email at [email protected] if you need more detailed info.  We did get our 140lbs of meat for our 4 ice chests!!

We liked the idea of going to Punta de Mita since it's closer to the fishing grounds. I checked the Punta de Mita site and found a nice price on a two bedroom condo at El Anclote for a week. I would recommend Casa Punta Vista, Mason and Mary's place, and it is very nice.

The four of us bring our own gear....that means two 6in rod tubes and a crap load of tackle. We needed a big car but we saved $ by getting a big van to transport our gear from the airport to hotel and renting a small car to drive around. We arranged it all with Gecko car rentals. Adam is really nice and really helped us out with booking pangas, showing us places to eat and shore fish, etc.

Since we were in PM, we found Capt Sal on the Tunatime. His 32 Twin Vee sold us too. That's a nice boat and has a huge area in front to throw topwater plugs. It's more expensive but we thought we would try it out so we booked for Monday.

Day 1: We arrive Friday 10/10 and after getting food at the Mega supermarket, we went to dinner at Margaritas. We met some captains and were advised to move up our first trip out to El Banco on Sunday instead of Monday since Trop Storm Odile was on the way. Dang! We also booked an inshore trip on pangas Sat just to get out.

Day 2: On Sat. it was rough and the inshore fishing was slow. We got a dorado, a nice jack, a pargo and some misc fish. Uh oh...not a good start.

Day 3: Sunday was Tunatime alright!! To make a long story short, we landed a 50, a 77 and a nice 162lber that kicked our ass. Since the big one was a hook and hand, my buddy Brian gave it up so we all played it. It bit our 665 Accurate with no rings to clip to so it was tough. We left El banco at 5ish so it was a long day. Capt Sal was great and we had a great day of fishing.

We rested the next two days. We drove to PV one day and went shore fishing in Litibu the next day. The surf was pounding so shore/kayak fishing was out. We called to check the weight of our fish the capt filleted and had sent to a packing company (Carnes del Mundo) for a buck pound.  They said they received 63lbs of fillets. What??? That's all??? The capt said he gave him the loins only.  Hum...rip off or miscommunication there??? Shiet.

Day 6: We went inshore on Wed. We went cheap and rented two single motor pangas for $50 an hr for 5 hrs. We topwatered up some nice roosters and baited up a few. Those Roosters are sure tough fish!! We also got into some Dodos that day, I think we landed over six up to 20lbs.

Day 7: Thursday was offshore on the Tunatime again to Corbetena. It was slow but I landed a nice 35lb Amberjack. Capt Sal hung in and fished it hard for us. Around 4pm he puts us on some dorado and at 5pm the tuna showed. Chaos hit and we threw our "heavy" spinning gear rigged with topwater plugs. Did I say spinning gear?? I never saw 50lb braid go by by so fast. It was over for me in a flash. We had triples on so we couldn't chase them. Here's the story...

My buddy Todd first threw out a pencil popper and whammo!! He plays it to the back of the boat. I then I see a monster boil on my buddy Steve's Yozuri surface cruiser, Uh Oh... I threw my surface iron and a monster almost jerks the rod out of my hand. Holly cow... a cow. 250+ yards later we both start palming the spool. Shiet...we clamp down, and pow...it was game over. What were we thinking?? The capt had nice Trinidad's rigged and ready too. My buddy in the back did land his 30lber so that was good. We needed that one more fish to fill our ice chests!
